History has proven that more than half of the world’s death involved deadly diseases. Now let us turn our attention towards one such disease. Inflammatory bowel disease or IBD may involve disorders of the intestinal track that is characterized by strictures and cramps.

There are two forms of inflammatory bowel diseases – crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Crohn’s disease is characterized by severe inflammation in the mucusa segment. But the infection is primarily caused in ileum. The region of infection is limited to the small bowel incase of crohn’s disease. As the disease advances the bowel wall will burst and gets narrowed which will affect the body’s nutritional statics.

Being cautious and preventive is the best way to avoid being infected.

  • Proper personal hygiene and cleanliness measures must be taken.
  • Take pure drinking water and food items.
  • Keep away from Junk, adulterate and rotten items and take easily digested foodstuffs.
  • Also stay away from alcohol and harmful drugs.
  • Avoid chain smoking.

People of all ages are infectious towards IBD. So irrespective of age limits everyone should involve in practising measures which gives protection from IBD.

Inflammatory bowel disease is incurable. Medical attention is needed even from the primary stage itself.

IBD patient should be given utmost care. It is advised to take proper nutrition and rich calorie content. The council for medicine in Canada has approved two types of safer and highly prescribed vaccines (i.e.) REMICADE and corticosteroids.  For adults and older children above 12 months, these medicines are given orally and intravenously. Very common side effect of corticosteroids may include weight gain, formation of facial hair, hypertension, mood swings and increased risk of infection.

To determine the presence of  Inflammatory bowel disease, blood test is required. Patients with ulcerative colitis may generally experience the following symptoms,

  • Fatigue.
  • Weight loss.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Rectal bleeding.
  • Loss of body fluids and
  • Nutrients.

Patients diagnosed with ulcerative colitis would develop an increased risk of colon cancer. A physical observation may be needed regularly to detect ulcerative colitis. The doctor may need to perform a treatment called as colononoscopy involving insertion of endoscope into the anus. Treatment for IBD may also include inflammatory control, reduction in abdominal pain, diarrhea and rectal bleeding.

  • Mild fever
  • Loss of appetite and vomiting condition
  • Slight headache
  • Pain around the jaundice and liver
  • Fatigue and tiredness, become week
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea in children
  • Dark color urine
  • Muscle pain and itching
  • Irritating and bad mood

In order to avoid getting affected by IBD one should take proper care and very much cautious when taking food and water. Drink pure water regularly and avoid junk, rotten and contaminate frozen foods. Wash your hand properly if you are engaged in food preparing services. Refrain from taking alcohol if you get infected by IBD. Go to the doctor immediately when you find any symptoms. Use much precaution when travelling in developing countries and the highly populated environment.
